Toward
the end of 2002, Uckfield & District Lions Club took delivery
of a brand new Volkswagen Mini-Bus to replace the aging Renault
that had served the community well for a number of years.
Fund raising for a replacement Mini-Bus was well under way
and with some money kindly left to us and a grant from the
Countryside Agency we were able to replace the Mini-Bus with
a custom built vehicle, equiped with a wheel chair lift and
space for 4 wheel chairs if needed, earlier than expected.
The Uckfield Lions Community Mini-Bus is widely used by many
different organisations around the Uckfield area and for many
organisations this form of 'service' from the Lions is the
only way they can ensure their members can be transported
to meetings and for outings. It is also well used by the Lions
to help in other service activities such as the Sunday Runs
during the summer and transporting people to and from various
events.

The
Mini-Bus is a Volkswagen 14-seat LT Mini-Bus. It has 4 wheel
chair positions and an electric wheelchair lift operating
from the rear doors. It has a 2.5 litre turbo-diesel engine
with 5 speed manual gearbox.
It
is available to hire subject to acceptance on the Insurance
policy, this is done by completing a named driver form and
is normally a formality.
The
current rates of hire are 75p per mile driven, which includes
fuel & insurance, with a minimum hire charge of £15
(effective 1 Sep 08).
